Q. Should you pray for strength and patience?

I was told that you should not pray for strength and patience. The reason for this is that god will test you if you pray for them. Well taking this person advice I stopped praying for strength and patience. A the time I was consrantly praying for them. My patience is short. But through his strength I had survived. I reaize now that is the wrong thing for me regardless of the answer. But I just wanted a little feed back. Because when I think about it I have still been tested.
